“More Fog, Please” – 31 Years Directing Community and High School Musicals -- is exactly that, memories of over thirty of the eighty musical theater shows Susan Moore Jordan directed from 1984 to 2015. “There’s no question where the buck stops in a theater production,” Jordan says, but she adds, “There are many people mentioned in these pages, because none of these shows could have happened without them.” Each chapter begins with the “Director’s Note” that appeared in the printed program for the show, and Jordan informally discusses the productions. She highlights the events – some exciting, some stressful, some humorous, some anxious, some frightening, some sad – that confirmed the old saying “the show must go on.” Woven throughout the book are “adventures” with stage fog, which the author loved to use. An intriguing look into the world of amateur theater and the people who make it happen, from one director’s point of view.

Several years later, she established a private voice studio that has sent its students on to leading schools of music and opera or musical theater companies around the world. Jordan began directing musical productions for community groups and high schools in 1984 and directed eighty shows through 2015. In October 2013, she published her first novel, How I Grew Up, followed by Eli's Heart in June, 2014, and You Are My Song, published in January, 2015. Fun glimpse into the world of community and high school musical theatre production!
By A. Evans
Everyone who has ever participated in amateur theatre – or appreciated it as a member of the audience – will love these very human stories about the talent, enthusiasm and dedication of ordinary people from all walks of life, and the many obstacles, some very humorous, that must be overcome in the making of a musical production

For 31 years, Susan Moore Jordan gave the people of East Stroudsburg/Stroudsburg, PA, the gift of delightful community and high school musical productions, experiences that inspired many to go on to pursue successful professional careers. She retired from directing just this year, and now has presented a well-written, entertaining history of the mounting of those musicals as a gift to the community she served.

In her three earlier books, works of fiction, Jordan proved she is an excellent story-teller who has a special talent for taking us into the world of music that she loves so much. "More Fog, Please" reveals the background and life experience that forged her special insight.

The Drama Behind the Drama
By Michaele L. Benedict
“More Fog, Please” is Susan Moore Jordan’s affectionate and witty look at her 31 years of directing community and high school musical productions.
The shows, many of them unusually sophisticated and complex for young actors, take place from 1984 to 2015 in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, Jordan’s long-time home.
The director has selected her favorites from some 80 musicals and begins most chapters with the her program notes from the original plays, going on to describe perils, successes, things that made the show particularly memorable. The fog of the title appears more than once, sometimes with near-disastrous consequences.
Sometimes the musicals will overlap personal tribulations or historical events such as the September 11 bombings, providing an important statement about the healing capacity of drama in a sometimes unpredictable world.
Although Jordan is generous with her praise for the hundreds of individuals who participated in the musicals given by Pocono Lively Arts, Black Sheep Productions, and Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg high schools, her hand and her vision are apparent in all the descriptions of the shows.
It is a testament to the excellence of the productions that many participants have gone on to careers in music and the theater.
Producers and directors of amateur musicals will find a great deal to love in “More Fog, Please,” but every reader will be entertained by the lively narrative which shows the drama behind the drama.

More Musical Memoirs, Please!
By Andrew Rennekamp
“More Fog, Please” is a great read! I recommend it to anyone interested in community or high school theater, but it’s a must read for those planning to direct or staff an amateur play. Throughout this often humorous memoir, author Sue Jordan provides the reader with seasoned advice, in anecdote form, about how to put on an entertaining show sure to please participants and patrons alike.

The book is chock-full of vivid details (no ‘fog’ here) about the many shows Jordan has directed, so much so that it provides a good deal of history concerning local musical theater in the Stroudsburg / East Stroudsburg area over the past 30 years. But the details of Jordan’s memories are merely illustrative, and not meant to be reproduced on other stages. Details are important, but "The play’s the thing,” Jordan reminds us, “keeping that in mind is paramount.”

Just as theater is “Larger than life and yet a reflection of life itself, ” Jordan describes how community theater reflects the community at its best. Many participants come together, often in families, to contribute their specific and diverse talents to a common goal – one great production. “More Fog, Please” is the story of many talented individuals and a very talented director (turned writer) making their studied contribution to the community.
