About the Author
Canadian painter Robert Bateman has been featured in exhibits across the globe, opening a permanent exhibition, The Robert Bateman Centre, in Victoria, B.C., in 2013. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada and a Member of the Order of British Columbia, and in 2013, he was awarded the Royal Canadian Geographical Society Gold Medal in recognition for his commitment to preserving the Canadian landscape. A beloved teacher and renowned naturalist celebrated for his accessible realist style, Bateman is a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts. He is the bestselling author of thirteen books. He continues to paint and lives with his wife, Birgit, in Salt Spring Island, British Columbia. Inside the art world

I received this book as a gift for Christmas. The great strength of the book is that Bateman goes beyond merely chronicling his life story. He provides a fascinating discussion of other artists, of squabbles in the art community, of his creative process, and how his artistic sense has informed his vision of environment and architecture. The book is richly illustrated with sketches, drawings, paintings and photos. The only negative, other than a few typos, is the lack of an index, which surely will handicap art historians and even the casual reader who wants to re-read a particular passage.
