Nice toolkit for an enlightened practice...

This book could serve as a very useful tool or support for developing your dance. It's personable, insightful, and lighthearted. I loved Julie Eason's tip on making eye contact with the audience by imagining that you (the performer) are teaching the audience your movement. This book is great for dedicated beginners/intermediates, as well as worth while for advanced/professionals.

Really cool book!

This is a really cool little book packed with lot of ideas. There are also educational tidbits throughout. There is a lot of variety in the prompts. Some of them made me giggle, some of them made me really think. I think the ideas are great for teachers to incorporate in their classes. Very unique little book!

Recommended for your dance tool box!

As a teacher, I really appreciate this book on many levels. Not only will I recommend it to my students for ideas to drive their own practice and create their own dance habits, but it also gives me thoughtful ideas to implement in class while working certain topics and to use in my own personal practice when I'm feeling stuck. I especially appreciate the suggestion to create a dance practice journal and the way the prompts are set up with a lack of rigidity so that each dancer may get out of them what he or she needs at that time. Well done!

Self-publishing start to finish.

A well-researched book, with a process actually used by the author, Nikki Jo Davis to publish this book and the sequel. Although designed for those with computer savvy, and indie authors who want to self-publish, this book explains the process from start to finish. It includes creating a book perfect for publication, through the steps of publishing on-line, to marketing the finished product. it is well organized in a step-by-step process with links for more information. I recommend that writers new to the business and those who want to self-publish read this book as a learning tool, and it will certainly help you make a choice about the kind of publishing you want for your books. The marketing tips in the final chapters are excellent for everyone. Kudos to Nikki.

My Friendly Book

This is the friendliest book I ever read. As you go through each chapter you feel like Nikki is right there with you talking. With her words she seems to anticipate your every question. Then she goes on to answer each one clearly. Here is the real genius behind it. She not only tells you what to do, but she shows you how to do it. She breaks individual concepts into small steps and presents all of them in a logical sequence. With more and more authors turning to independent publishing and asking every kind of question, I am proud to be able to suggest this book as a user-friendly resource and then also to recommend it highly.

Jason Kneen is an experienced mobile developer who has created numerous apps for iOS and Android. He is passionate about mobile development and, in particular, the Appcelerator Titanium platform. I love learn with books based on recipes!

Jason Kneen is a great author and I read his first Edition with enthusiasm. It teaches you some tips with their great recipes. Now in this second edition write code based in Alloy, too. It's easy to follow a recipe step by step and achieve your goal. Very clear and recommended if you are an experienced Titanium user or a web developer who want to write Mobile apps with Javascript code using native UI components running on Android, iOS and Windows Phone.

This book is an excellent resource for those with some knowledge of the D programming language (Ali Cehreli's book is a better introduction to the language). The chapters are built on examples that are easy to follow, yet provide enough detail to be of use in your own projects. The individual sections are packed with so much information that you'll want to read through them several times.

The author is a gifted writer. D programmers are very lucky to have a resource like this available. It's like Knuth decided to write a book on the D programming language.

I really enjoy this book

It is a really good book. Author explain things in a comprehensible way. If you are interesting in learning a D language and have some basic knowledge in any of similar languages like C++, C, Java, C#.... This book is definitely right for you. If you are already familiar with D ( or even advanced in D same as me :) ) this book will help you to extend your knowledge and clarify them.

A Solid Introduction to the D Programming Language

What I love about Michael Parker's treatment of D is that he manages to give an overview which is both comprehensive and understandable. His examples contain only the relevant portions, keeping the focus away from implementation boilerplate. Parker also does a very good job of pointing out potential mistakes to avoid and provides tips for coding idiomatically

There are several sections of the book (mostly in the "Taking D to the Next Level" chapter) which should have either received more attention, or simply have been left out.

I'd recommend reading this for anyone interested in D with at least some background in programming.

Call me a twaddling fanboy if you like, but Popkiss is a hugely enjoyable evocation of a lost age of independent music--one that meant a lot to me then and continues to fascinate now. White writes with considerable wit and verve, and I didn't detect any "journalistic errors," though nor was I searching for any. At times I wish he could go into more detail--this book flies by, and there are some avenues not fully explored. But I've been entranced by this peek behind the curtain of a scene that partly defined my youth. Sarah always brought out the haters: plus ca change, it seems.

A great historical overview of a wonderful label

I was a big fan of Sarah Records in the early 90's, and this book is a wonderful history of the label and the bands and the people involved. It's a great introduction for people unfamiliar with Sarah, and a great trip down memory lane for existing fans.

and made me a better music fan

I went into Popkiss a minor Sarah fan (mostly because of Blueboy and The Hit Parade). I left Popkiss not only with a renewed and expanded interest in Sarah, but with warm fuzzy feelings about indie pop at large and my relationship to it as a fan.

The closest comparison I can make is to Simon Reynold's postpunk survey Rip It Up and Start Again. The structures and writing styles of both books are similar, certainly. More importantly, though: both books challenged my perceptions about their subject matters, got me thinking about how I engage with music, and made me a better music fan. Definitely a worthwhile read for anyone interested in 80s/90s indie.
