This one just wasn't as funny as the others

This one just wasn't as funny as the others. I think a large part of this was some of the characters. I didn't like reading the parts about Randy (who was introduced in book 3) and I hated Denise who was almost always with Randy. Situations that might have been funny were instead spoiled by these two. In addition, I found Tim to be pretty annoying during book 3 and absolutely hated him in this one. It might just be his character arc, but the way he interacts with the other characters drove me up the wall.

That said, the final setpiece for this one was definitely the funniest of all the books. It's just that a lot of the smaller laughs fell flat for me.

To sum up, not enough Cooper, way too much Denise and Tim.

Extremely Creative and Funny

Another hilarious installment in a great series. I'm going to miss the former status of one of the main characters whose antics never failed to stop my ability to breathe. Hopefully Bevan has something in mind to continue providing that particular brand of humor in the next book.

Some of the humor is getting old, but Bevan handles it in a very self-aware way since we are kind of stuck with it for now. Cooper could really use a charisma-boosting item or something.

This series and the stormlight archive are the only two series I buy instantly on release and switch from whatever I was reading at the time.

The series keeps getting better

Once again, Robert Bevan shows that he knows just how to raise the stakes in high fantasy, then drag them through the gutter, making the reader laugh like a loon the whole way. But it's not just dick and fart jokes; we also get treated to satisfying character development, a light seasoning of mordant social commentary, and hilarious enough blasphemy to keep even the damned cackling as their spit turns.

Anna Pointer is a ghostwriter and journalist and with 15 years experience of writing for the national media. She was Editor of a women's celebrity magazine for three years before pursuing a freelance career in spring 2013. Four years before my joining the Company, the Green Ram Summer Theater leapt into existence: Wednesday, July 3rd, 1957. Full-tilt, full speed, full-throttle. Presented from my seven-summer perspective as actor, director, and Company Manager, ‘Curtain Up’ tells of the Green Ram, its actors, directors, technicians, and designers. But most of all, the book tells of Claire Ellen ‘Pinky’ Prothero Kentzler, Ram owner and producer. Thin, bespeckled, and ever in motion, boss-pixie Pinky remains among the more colorful women ever to grace south-central Wisconsin. Later, when the Theater had closed and she was named WHA Radio station director, she looked back at the Ram years and commented wryly, “I always wanted to run something.” The Green Ram endured for eleven summers, 1957-1967, two years after I had already jumped ship for the more secure waters of university teaching. Eleven seasons, nine shows per season, ninety-nine productions. This is what I remember. ‘Cowboy coffee,’ strike nights, rehearsals in the rain, Shanghai-the-cat. It was a different time. Death of a Salesman, Bus Stop, Anything Goes, Long Day’s Journey into Night. Scripts of every stripe and nature. Shakespeare, O’Neill, Williams, Miller, Simon. Musicals, comedies, dramas, American and world classics. Pinky attempted small but human goals: teaching, enlightenment, the joy of creating, and warm summer-evening entertainments. Today the Ram founders appear as giants. Larger-than-life, the tiny group of individuals who wrestled the theater into existence were somehow more daring, more courageous than now. Pinky, Gloria Link, Papa Buerki, Jim Kentzler, Arlyn Zeller, Don Burdick, Bob McElya, Joel Cook, Chuck Schmitt, Jo Anne Jaeger. What they achieved can never be duplicated. This is their story too, of course, theirs more than mine. But I can’t speak of other people’s triumphs and tragedies, only my own, what I experienced in my seven seasons in the sun ¬ and rain ¬ during the summers of 1961¬1967. While at the Ram, scores of life-changing events flashed past in a blur of theatrical confusion, happenings which I sometimes understood only marginally. With twenty-five or more artists-in-residence on ‘the Ranch,’ as it came to be called, all straining mightily to survive and succeed, life crises occurred daily, heart-breaking tragedies and farce-ridden comedies, incidents often difficult to fathom, but seldom possible to ignore. While I don’t claim to have fully understood the nuances of the all the dramas unfurling around me, I knew my own personal summers intensely ¬ the successes, the failures, the real-life tragedies. They were to be the most vibrant, all-consuming times of my life. Embrace or reject it, one could not exist at the Ram without being totally, entirely, excruciatingly alive. Every minute of every hour of every day. About the Author Wil Denson is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He holds a Ph.D. in Theatre from the University of Wisconsin and an M.A. in English from the University of Arizona. Denson taught at the university level for more than 33 years. He headed the UW-Eau Claire theatre program for five years and was Director of UW-EC Summer Theatre for 25 seasons. Included in his writing honors are a Dale Wasserman Playwriting Award, a Wisconsin Arts Board Fellowship in Literature, and a First Place Award for his screenplay, “Feral.” He has written over 25 plays – eight of which have been published and 19 produced throughout the U.S. as well as in most English-speaking countries. A GREAT BOOK!

This is a GREAT read for all those nostalgia loving enthusiasts out there. Filled with great insight and personal stories of a by-gone era, it makes you feel like you were there for all the trials and tribulations of summer stock theatre of yesteryear. As you rip through this, you'll realize that some things have changed, but, sadly, some things have not. Smaller theatres still struggle to survive and hard-working, great artists are rarely financially compensated for their talents. I would highly recommend this book to any lover/respecter of theatre.

About the Author
Kory Livingstone was born and raised in Toronto. He combines a lifelong career of being a pianist/composer and songwriter with his love of being a business entrepreneur. As a Keynote Artist Kory combines his keynote speaking with original music that he performs on stage to underscore the theme of his talks. He was the founder and director of the Toronto High School of the Performing Arts, whose students included Cree Summer Franks, Keanu Reeves, and Brooke Johnston. A graduate of Wilfred Laurier University, Kory counts becoming a published author as his most recent achievement. unique insights into creativity, motivation, and decision making

Kory is a smart guy in many areas and I like what he has to say. What's great about Kory as a musician is that he's unknowingly mastered many areas of music (and other skills) that you can apply to sports, business, and personal development (exercise, losing weight, etc.) There are tools in here to deal with lack of confidence, the perfectionism trap, problem solving, owning your successes and failures, honing a skill (deliberate practice) and more. There's a nice blend in here of real advice, mixed with the proven tools you need, and it's not too long winded. Many important sections are explained in bullet point or diagram form to ensure you understand it all. This is a great read.

Perfect for cold winter days

Perfect for cold winter days. I love the aroma in my apartment when I walk in the door when I have one of these recipes simmering away. I've tried two of them and tend to like my dinners on the warm side, so I'd recommend spicy hot mustard with the pork and sauerkraut recipe and Worcestershire Sauce with the Ropa Vieja. Well organized and the dinners are as easy to prepare as the author promises. Can't wait to try my next one...

Very good book! Looking forward to trying many more of these recipes! I like how it is broken down into types of meat and then also by the time it takes to cook. Perfect to put on in the morning and have dinner ready when you get home!!

Not worth the time to write a review

This book was nothing more than a couple of recipes that you could find elsewhere. What I was hoping for was some new recipes that my whole family would enjoy and were different than what we already use our pressure cooker for. Unfortunately this was not the recipe book I was looking for. I would not recommend this to my friends or enemies.

Excerpt from A Century of Protestant Missions in China (1807-1907) Being the Centenary Conference Historical Volume

The original idea of this Volume was set forth by Dr. Arthur H. Smith in a paper in the Chinese Recorder of August, 1905, entitled "A Centennial History of Protestant Missions in China." As he was the person originally expected to do the work, his remarks will be of interest. They were as follow: -

"The General Committee in charge of the arrangements for the Conference of 1907 are planning for the compilation of a compendious summary of the work of all the societies working in the Empire. It was at first proposed to commit this task to a single individual, but when the matter was discussed in a special meeting held May 22nd, 1905, the utter impracticability of the undertaking was recognized.

There is no single individual, whatever his acquaintance with China, who could survey the whole immense field with so minute and comprehensive a vision as to be able to present it as a coordinated and harmonious whole. Were there no other difficulty the limitation of time would be a fatal bar to success. Under these circumstances it was unanimously voted to attempt the task by an entirely different process. The Committee is communicating with the home management of all the different societies concerned, and is asking each one to arrange for the preparation of a succinct summary of its own individual work in China; all the manuscripts to be sent to Shanghai to be edited, and eventually published in a volume (or volumes), which will then become a complete, an authentic, and a permanently valuable history of Protestant missions in China for a century."

In accordance with this idea, circulars were sent to all the Home authorities asking for succinct historical summaries. At first these were to be limited to 4,000 words each, but this was modified in a subsequent circular to an average limit of 4,000 words, the older Societies being given more space, and the others warned that their matter might have to be editorially curtailed.

On January 23rd, 1906, I was appointed to the post of Editorial Secretary of the volume.

Fun

With three photographic books about disco released in late 2015, two centered on album covers, this volume represents an easier weight and price for readers not concerned with comprehensive coverage. Its pluses include good reproductions of album covers, respectful if humorous captions, and a comfortable sizing and format of publication. The author, a photographer, is at his best when he focuses on the production side of the album covers (art directors, photographers, illustrators, etc). The majority of the captions, however, contain breezy observations about the era, fashions, settings, etc. The light tone is abetted by the two-page layout style, large image on one side, three to six smaller images opposite, all sharing some trait, be it street settings, dancing cyborgs, or the color orange. The book concerns the mainstream years of disco and omits the 1969-72 years before Billboard started reporting on it.

The Perfect Holiday Book for Absolutely Everyone

While not a particular fan of disco when it was going on, this book completely won me over. The graphics and layout---to say nothing of the album art itself---are superb. This book is for everyone, for anyone with an interest in music, art, history and the wonderful campy excesses of the disco era. Whether you were there or not, David Hamsley's book will take you there. Whether going back on a nostalgia trip or entering the era for the first time, you're in for a treat. The writing is also excellent, filled with humor and love, and it is a hand-in-glove accompaniment to the images presented. Don't delay getting this book for yourself or friends, or you may well have to wait for its second or third printing.

Smart and beautiful

One of the best album cover art books in a long time. Beautiful reproduction, fascinating text. The author gives us lots of great background and anecdotes for the covers and artists that really made me appreciate them a lot more on different levels, although they're all great to just look at as well. I spent hours doing just that. The covers are arranged both chronologically, and in small thematic groupings that make sense together, so the best part is that the author succeeds in telling a story. It was an era I lived through, but I came away feeling like I had learned about it for the first time.
